VERMONT MORGAN HORSE ASSOCIATION
BREEDER’S FUTURITY

The Vermont Morgan Horse Association Breeder's Futurity has been created for VMHA members who have bred or own quality Morgan horses ages 3 and under. The purpose of the Futurity is to promote the use of Vermont stallions and mares in Morgan breeding programs both in state and outside of Vermont.  In order to be eligible to compete in the VMHA Breeder's Futurity the resulting foals must be the product of a parent owned or leased by a Vermont Resident, or be the offspring of a stallion or mare residing in Vermont.  We encourage the promotion of the resulting offspring at VMHA events such as the Vermont Spring Classic. It is also our hope to encourage the participation of owners, amateurs and jr. exhibitors; however, professional trainers will be allowed to assist or present the entries in all classes except where specifically prohibited by USEF rules.  In-hand and performance classes are offered with in-hand class winners receiving ribbons, points and prize money.  Performance class winners receive ribbons and points towards the Grand Championship that will conclude in the 3 year old year.

This is a terrific opportunity for you to show off your Morgan youngsters and make some money in the process.  If you are interested in knowing more about the VMHA Breeder's Futurity please read the Rules and Regulations link or contact Sarah Sanchez (802-658-9535) with any questions.

PURPOSE

The VMHA Breeder’s Futurity is being established to provide a showcase for the very finest Morgan Horses produced by VMHA members. The purpose of the Futurity is to promote the use of Vermont stallions and mares in Morgan breeding programs both in state and outside of Vermont, and to encourage the promotion of the resulting offspring at VMHA events.

The VMHA Breeder's Futurity provides the opportunity for Futurity horses to compete in both In-Hand and Performance Classes. It is the intent of VMHA to encourage the participation of owners, amateurs and jr. exhibitors; however, professional trainers will be allowed to assist or present the entries in all classes except where specifically prohibited by USEF rules.

VMHA intends to hold a stallion service auction each year as a partial funding source and promotion for the VMHA Breeder' s Futurity.  Any stallion whose service is donated and purchased through the VMHA Stallion Service Auction will be automatically nominated, and exempt from sire nominating fees, for the year in which the foal is born.  Likewise, any foal resulting from a breeding service purchased at the VMHA Stallion Service Auction is exempt from any weanling nominating fees. Futurity nominations are traditionally made soon after the foal is born.

STALLION - $20 paid on or before December 31, of the year the foal is born, or prior to the foal showing in the VMHA Futurity weanling class (whichever is sooner),.  The stallion need only be nominated once per year for any number of foals.

If a breeding service is purchased through the VMHA Stallion service auction from a farm that offers a choice of stallions (i.e. UVM Morgan Horse Farm), only the stallion chosen by the winning bidder will be automatically nominated for the corresponding year.

9. No payment will be returned unless the Futurity is called off in any or all divisions.  The right is reserved to reject any entry and to bar any entry for failure to comply with Futurity conditions

10. Owners must enter the Futurity classes and reserve their stalls with the appropriate show secretary.  Nomination to the Futurity does not constitute an entry in the Futurity classes, nor does it reserve a stall at the show grounds, and any charges for such will be considered separate from any futurity payments.

11. All prize checks will be mailed to the owner of the horse, with the exception of Breeder's pay back checks, which will be mailed to the nominator of the sire or dam of the winning horse.

12. PRIZE FUND- The individual prize funds will be comprised and divided as follows:

A.  A minimum of $2,000.00 will be equally divided and added to the weanling, yearling, two-year old, and three-year-old divisions. (The added amount of $2000.00 is a minimum amount, and may come from proceeds of the Stallion Service Auction and other donations, and may vary depending on available funds.)

B.  75% of all fees and penalties paid in each individual year will be added to the prize funds paid for those individual years payable after December 31st.  The remaining 25% will go towards administrative expenses.

 13. AWARDS- Points, fee/penalty money and prize money will be awarded for in-hand classes and will be divided as follows: 1st - 30%; 2nd - 25%; 3rd - 20%; 4th - 15%; 5th - 5%; 6th- 5%. Futurity entries may be shown and points only awarded in performance classes for their age group (2-year-old driving classes and 3-year-old driving and saddle classes).  Futurity entries will be entered and judged as participants in the performance class, but also will be awarded points as futurity entries.  (For instance if the top futurity entry receives 4th place in the class, that entry would receive a 4th place ribbon for that class, but also would receive first place points for the futurity division. and so on.) Any undistributed prize moneys within a class will be added to the graduating class prize fund.

A. Points gained by each entry over the full four-year term of the futurity will determine the Graduating Class Championship.   In order to be eligible to win the Championship entries must have their futurity nominations paid up through the 3-year old year and prior to the final 3 year-old class.  Points will be awarded in each qualified class entered (in-hand futurity classes and performance classes), to be scored, 6,5,4,3,2 and 1 for first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth placing, respectively.  It is the responsibility of the owner of the nominee to notify the futurity recording secretary when performance classes have been entered.  In the event of a tie, the horse placing the highest in the three-year-old class division shall be judged the winner.  The Graduating Class Championship fund will be divided as follows:             Champion - 30%; Reserve Champion - 25%; 3rd - 20%; 4th - 15%; 5th - 5%; 6th- 5%

Nominator of the sire of the Graduating Class Champion will receive $100.00

Nominator of the dam of the Graduating Class Champion will receive $50.00

14.  TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP -  When a horse nominated in the Futurity is sold, it is the responsibility of the seller to notify the Futurity Secretary of the change of ownership, and to inform the buyer that the horse is nominated for the VMHA Futurity and will be eligible for same when all fees are paid.  It is the responsibility of the buyer to pay all subsequent fees.

15. IN THE EVENT MARE FAILS TO CONCEIVE OR DELIVER LIVE FOAL -   In the event the mare fails to conceive or deliver a live foal after owner purchases a breeding at the auction, the mare owner has the right to have their foal entered in the Futurity the following year (or as indicated in return privileges in the breeding contract) with the same privileges. The foal will be eligible for the Futurity even though the stallion may not be included in the auction the following year.  In addition, if the mare owner who purchases a service at auction is provided a substitute stallion, the foal from that stallion will be eligible for the Futurity even if the substitute stallion is not a nominated Futurity stallion.

16. DISPUTES AND AMENDMENTS- Any disputes arising as a result of in-clarity or omission in these rules shall be brought to the attention of, considered by, and resolved by, the Futurity Committee.  Decisions by the Futurity Committee are final and are not appealable. The Futurity Committee reserves the right to amend fees and rules as necessary.
